THE FOLLOW UP: Exploring the Notion of Time

Because the past

has the power to

inform our future...

"2009 was the year that changed the trajectory of my professional, and personal, life... It was a decade ago, that I embarked on my first solo journey as an independent video journalist seeking to raise awareness of the communities the media didn't care about."  - Maggie Padlewska

THE FOLLOW UP

A BRIeF NOTE ON THE

BACKGROUND

A decade ago, my One Year One World (OYOW) initiative was considered unconventional and perhaps a little too far-fetched and rebellious for the newsroom executives I once worked for (after all, how could a single woman travel, document, edit and share her material from the field on her own?)... truth is, times were changing, potable technology became accessible, and I didn't care about the judgements of others. I was determined to reach communities neglected by the media, to add their voices to the global dialogue, and to amplify their stories as widely as I possibly could - whether the newsroom executives thought it was a good idea or not!

BUT THE WORLD WASN'T PAYING MUCH ATTENTION THEN,

BUT IT certainly beginning to do so now.

The Amazon Rainforest is on fire...

Yes, tragically it's been burning for decades - the Waorani community and I tried to tell you about it 8 years ago.

CONCEPT

Over the past decade, I've had the incredible privilege of meeting, learning from, collecting and documenting the stories, perspectives opinions, observations and warnings of those born into ancient and traditional wisdom - people who often hold the keys to our natural survival, the wellbeing of humanity and our planet.

While the world wasn't paying much attention to the issues that were once seen as irrelevant and inapplicable across border, it is surely doing so now.

INSTEAD of chasing news stories as we journalists tend to do, I propose and opportunity to go back, to delve into my personal archives, and follow up on the stories that headed great warnings and messages about the present issues and concerns that continue to affect our lives and out future as a global community.

THE FOLLOWING is an introduction to the 12-part series that I am aiming to produce.
